Rich Hoffman
Rich Hoffman is a leading voice in the scientific study of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), with more than five decades of experience investigating, researching, and advancing serious inquiry into the subject. A lifelong researcher, technology strategist, and respected defense contractor, Hoffman has dedicated his career to both advancing U.S. defense systems and bringing scientific rigor to the exploration of anomalous aerial phenomena.
Professional Career in Defense and Technology
Hoffman holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communications from Wright State University and has spent over 25 years as an Information Technology (IT) defense contractor. Currently, he serves as an Enterprise Architect at Redstone Arsenal and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. In this role, he helps shape the future direction of the Army’s IT systems, networks, and hosting arrangements—critical components for national defense and advanced technological infrastructure.
Working primarily for the Army Materiel Command Headquarters through Chugach Government Solutions and other contractors, Hoffman has developed a strong reputation as a strategist and systems engineering analyst. His work in IT architecture is highly regarded, paralleling the same systematic, detail-oriented approach he applies to the study of UAP.
A Lifelong Passion for UFO Research
Hoffman’s journey into UFO research began in April 1964, during his eighth-grade science class, when he first became captivated by the now-famous Lonnie Zamora sighting in Socorro, New Mexico. That moment sparked a passion that has carried through six decades of investigation, analysis, and public outreach.
Over the course of his career, Hoffman has investigated nearly a thousand UAP cases, drawing on not only his own fieldwork but also his extensive review of MUFON case files, Project Blue Book reports, and other archival databases. His investigations have included cooperative research with staff at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Foreign Technology Division, where he even presented on UFO-related subjects to military audiences.
Leadership Roles in UAP Organizations
Throughout his career, Hoffman has held leadership positions in multiple organizations dedicated to the study of UAP. Within MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), he served as State Director, Director of Investigations, Star Team Manager, and Director of Strategic Projects. His focus has always been on advancing scientific standards of inquiry and building bridges between professional researchers and the broader public.
In 2017, recognizing the need for a more formal scientific framework for UAP research, Hoffman co-founded the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU), alongside a small group of like-minded colleagues. The SCU has since grown into a respected think tank of more than 235 scientists, academics, engineers, and industry professionals. Its mission is to apply rigorous scientific principles to the investigation of anomalous phenomena, ensuring that credible evidence is gathered, analyzed, and peer-reviewed.
Collaboration and Ongoing Contributions
Beyond his work with SCU, Hoffman actively supports and collaborates with a number of organizations advancing UAP research. These include the Society for UAP Studies, UAPx, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) UAP Community of Interest, and UFOData. Through these collaborations, Hoffman continues to push for greater scientific legitimacy, transparency, and cooperation in a field too often mired in speculation or secrecy.
A Bridge Between Science, Technology, and Phenomena
Rich Hoffman’s unique position at the intersection of advanced defense technology and UAP research makes him a valuable and credible voice in today’s UAP dialogue. He brings to the field not only the discipline and experience of a senior defense systems architect, but also the passion and persistence of a lifelong investigator dedicated to uncovering the truth.
As UAP research moves into a new era of public awareness and government acknowledgment, Rich Hoffman remains at the forefront—leading, mentoring, and challenging others to adopt the scientific mindset needed to understand one of the greatest mysteries of our time.
